AUDITION GUIDELINES FOR NEW MEMBERS
The Inland Master Chorale invites experienced singers to audition.
The Inland Master Chorale has developed standards for its members in order to enhance the performance of fine choral literature. Membership in the Chorale means that you have achieved a certain level of musicianship, which is determined by an audition conducted by our Artistic Director, Roger Duffer, and Associate Director/Accompanist, Melva Morrison. These auditions are held in August and January for new members. Existing members are required to re-audition every five years.
Your audition will include:
* Vocal Range: You will vocalize to determine vocal range and voice part classification.
* Tonal Memory: You will be tested by singing back a series of notes played on the piano.
* Sight Reading: You will be asked to sing your part in a choral selection while the accompanist plays the other parts on piano.
* Prepared Piece: Please choose and prepare a song that most clearly demonstrates the quality and versatility of your voice. Acceptable pieces would include opera, oratorio arias, an art song in any language, or a ballad from a standard Broadway musical. You may be asked to sing all or a part of this piece, but it need not be memorized. An accompanist will be provided, so please bring an extra copy of your music.
At the beginning of the season, the first two rehearsals are open to prospective members to try us out. You are strongly encouraged to attend these open rehearsals prior to auditioning.
